Art and Labour
By Tara Bursey
The Art and Labour Lab is an ongoing project, launched on May Day of 2022 as part of Living Is Easy at Struts Gallery in Sackville, New Brunswick.
Drawing from the aesthetics of 20th century job centres, the first iteration of the Art and Labour Lab was a participatory research project that explored and archived intersections of art, cultural work, and labour organizing. Over two weeks, visitors added to a growing collection of resources displayed and distributed at Struts Gallery during “office hours” held by artist Tara Bursey.
This zine grew out of conversations and resources gathered during the Lab’s tenure at Struts, and includes a contribution from the New Brunswick Common Front For Social Justice (Moncton). These publications were made primarily to be distributed to Mount Allison University students on campus to aid in their own understanding community organizing and labour issues for artists and arts workers.
