Rewilding: Hamilton’s Alleyways 🌿
A photo zine by Angela Zheng
Published by Partizanka Press
Rewilding documents the alleyways in several Hamilton neighbourhoods.
In areas of the alleys that humans have left unmaintained, wildlife has taken over. There are traces of human life in the household items left behind such as a set of doors, a window, a plate. However, we see the reach of nature in the picture of the boat, which is surrounded by trees and shrubs.
Taken together, these photographs bring to light an entirely different kind of place within the city. In between rows of houses where the alleys run, the forces of nature dominate.
Angela Zheng is a photographer interested in urban landscapes and based in Ontario. Currently, she is interested in photographing the alleys that run through Hamilton neighbourhoods, and how nature has started reclaiming these spaces. Angela’s work has been published in Blank Spaces, Color Tag, Existere, and Carte Blanche magazine. Exhibitions have included Gallery 1313 (Toronto), Centre[3] (Hamilton), Studio K2 (Hamilton) and the Orillia Museum of Art and History (Orillia).
